Dermatology

Diagnosing, treating and managing a wide range of skin conditions.

What we do

We treat patients with common and rare dermatological conditions. We use biologic therapies if you have any of the following conditions:

  • eczema
  • hidradenitis suppurativa
  • severe psoriasis
  • urticaria.

We also provide consultative care for inpatients and emergency department referrals at Western Health. We do not provide a cosmetic or laser service.

Our team consists of 7 consultant dermatologists, 2 registrars, a paediatric dermatology nurse practitioner, a biologics nurse and rotating dermatology residents.

Services and facilities

We provide the following clinics and services:

  • Inpatient Dermatology Referrals
  • General Dermatology Clinic – Footscray
  • General Dermatology Clinic – Melton: This clinic also reviews and provides narrow band phototherapy services.
  • Paediatric Dermatology Clinic – Sunshine
  • Skin Cancer Clinic – Sunshine

Minor surgical and medical treatments are often performed at our outpatient clinics.

All clinics are teaching clinics with Medical students, Residents and Registrars.

UV (Ultraviolet) Light Therapy

Ultraviolet Light (UV) Therapy is used as a treatment for many skin-based conditions such as psoriasis and alopecia. Melton Health and Community Services (Green Building) has both a booth and a hand / foot machine to provide this therapy. Sessions can range in both time and frequency per week dependent on the needs of the patient.

A dermatologist must see all patients prior to commencing this service and therefore a GP referral is required. Please refer to our Dermatology information.

This service is funded by the Medicare Benefit Scheme (MBS). It is bulk billed and there is no out of pocket fees associated.
