Lymphoedema service

Providing assessment, treatment and self-management support for people with swelling of the arms, legs, torso, head or neck.

What we do

Our Lymphoedema Clinic is staffed by a Division 1 Registered Nurse who has undergone specialist Lymphoedema Therapy training (Level 1 and Level 2).

If you have arm, leg, torso, head or neck swelling you will be assessed with a holistic approach. You should bring a list of your medical conditions and medications to your assessment appointment.

Support and education can be provided to treat your lymphoedema using complex decongestive therapy, including:

  • compression garment prescriptions
  • exercise
  • lymphatic drainage (taught but not provided regularly)
  • skin care.

If you are at risk of developing lymphoedema, you can attend an individual education session on ways to help prevent developing the condition.

You must purchase compression garments if they are recommended. If you are an eligible client, we can help you get funding through the Lymphoedema Compression Garment Scheme which is managed by the Victorian Aids and Equipment Program.

This service does not prescribe compression therapy for non-lymphoedema conditions (vascular conditions or lipoedema). These should be referred to an orthotist.

Services and facilities

Group Exercise classes are held on Friday afternoons during school terms. The class involves mainly chair-based exercises to improve lymphatic function. They combine 45 minutes of exercise and 30 minutes of education on a topic related to lymphoedema.

Referrals

Triage will occur based on the clinical information provided on your referral. There is no requirement to go through My Aged Care for lymphoedema services.
