What we do

The Western Health Upper Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary (GI / HPB) Unit is a team of eight specialist surgeons providing care across Footscray Hospital, Sunshine Hospital and Williamstown Hospital.  

Our team has extensive experience in both open and minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgical techniques, with expertise across a wide range of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and pancreatic conditions. 

We are committed to delivering advanced, patient-centred care with a multidisciplinary approach.

  • Gallstone and biliary disease
  • Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and hiatus hernia
  • Barrett’s oesophagus
  • Oesophageal and gastric cancer
  • Liver tumours (primary and secondary, including metastatic colorectal cancer)
  • Groin and incisional hernias
  • Peptic ulcer disease
  • Upper gastrointestinal emergencies
  • Achalasia
  • Pancreatic cysts
