It has played an important role in the development of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) 2013 curriculum and has an impressive track record in supporting trainees through the examination process.

The department provides 5 hours per week in hours structured tutorial programs for anaesthesia trainees preparing for the ANZCA Initial Assessment of Anaesthetic Competence (IAAC), Primary and Final examinations. The Primary program is conducted with the collaboration of other departments within the North-western training program. Staff also support trainees through providing feedback on trial written examinations and conducting realistic mock vivas for the medical and anaesthesia vivas.
