Respecting our staff
Our staff are here to provide the best possible care and support for patients and their families. To do this, they need a safe and respectful workplace.
This means we will not tolerate:
- aggressive or threatening behaviour
- physical violence or damage to property
- obscene, racist, sexist or demeaning language.
What we expect from visitors
We understand that seeing someone you care about when they’re unwell or injured can be upsetting. We’re here to work with you, listen to you and support you at every stage of their care journey.
We ask all visitors to:
- Treat staff and others with dignity and respect.
- Speak and act in a calm manner.
- Avoid any behaviour that may cause harm or distress to others.
We take all incidents of aggression and violence very seriously.
If aggressive or violent behaviour occurs
If a visitor behaves in an aggressive or violent manner, the following actions may be taken:
- They be asked to sign a behaviour agreement in order to continue visiting.
- If the agreement is not followed, they may be asked to leave or denied access to the hospital.
- In serious cases, a 'Not Welcome Notice' may be issued. This means the person will be banned from entering any of our hospitals.
- Security will be called if staff members feel threatened or unsafe.
- Victoria Police may be contacted if the situation worsens.
