Who this service is for

Adult Specialist Clinics (outpatient services) support people who need specialist care for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up before or after a hospital stay. 

Our clinics are provided by the Adult Outpatient Department, DrugHealth Services (formerly DASWest) and Women's Clinics. Our Subacute Ambulatory Care Service also provide services which can be referred to by GPs including Community Based Rehabilitation and Specialist Clinics via the Western Health Community Services.

We conduct over 80 telehealth and in-person clinics per week across our Western Health campuses:

Referrals

You can be referred to Specialist Clinics by GPs, specialists and other community-based healthcare providers, as well as by clinicians in emergency departments, inpatient wards and other areas of the hospital.

For referrals to Adult Specialist Clinics (Outpatients) please:

  1. See your GP or specialist for a referral.
  2. Have your doctor send us your referral.

Once you have been referred, we will either:

Accept your referral. 

Once accepted, our team will review your referral to determine how urgently care needs to be provided. 

If urgent, we will contact you to arrange an appointment. 

If routine, you will be placed on our wait list. We will contact you once an appointment becomes available.

Decline your referral. 

If your referral is missing information, we will contact your referring doctor for additional information. 

We may either suggest your doctor refer you to a health service closer to home where you will receive the same type of care or refer you to another health service if we do not provide the service you require. 

We will contact you to know if your referral has been declined.

You will receive your appointment details as either a text message/SMS or a letter.

General Clinics: Monday to Friday: 8:30am–5:30pm

After Hours Clinics: Monday to Friday: 5:30pm–9:00pm

 

Sunshine Hospital

Adult Specialist Clinics Pod 1, 3 and 4

Ground Floor Acute Services Building 

Open: Monday to Friday: 8:30am–5:30pm.

 

Sunbury Day Hospital

Outpatients Ground Floor

Open: Monday to Friday: 8:30am–5:30pm.

 

Visiting hours

Days and times: Visiting hours at Footscray and Sunshine hospitals are between 12pm and 8pm daily.

If you need to cancel an appointment and do not need to speak to a staff member please phone 8345 6490 and follow the prompts to the cancellation line to leave a message.

The Communication Centre is open Monday to Friday, from 8.30am- 4.30pm.

We will make sure your call is answered as quickly as possible and that you are given the most appropriate outcome.
