New to Western Health
Congratulations on choosing to take the exciting next step in your career here at Western Health.
You serve a vital role in contributing to our values, purpose, strategy and overall goal of achieving a positive patient experience. It is important for you to get to know the Health Service environment and culture in the first few weeks and months of your employment.
Before you start
The documentation sent to you with your offer of employment contains material to help you start to find your way around. The employee handbook contains "signposts" to a range of information that new employees need to be aware of. In addition, you may wish to view the following links:
Once you start
Car Parking
Parking on your first day is available in our public car parks at Sunbury Day Hospital, Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals for a fee. Free on-street parking is available at Williamstown Hospital and Hazeldean Transition Care.
Information and Resources
The Intranet site is the starting point for information and links and is the best place to find a wide range of dynamic information (i.e. information which is regularly updated, like general or clinical procedures, salary rates and employment awards and agreements.) We do not provide print based copy of such material to ensure that employees only refer to the most up to date version.
You can access the intranet once your employee computer access is enabled. Normally this is arranged on the first day at work by your manager.
Finding your way around our main sites
The following Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital site maps may assist you to find your way around our main sites on your first few days.
Orientation
Commencing at a new workplace can be both exciting and a little overwhelming. Your transition to Western Health and your new workplace will be made easier and more effective through our thorough orientation process.
Western Health provides both organisational and departmental orientation.
Departmental Orientation - is provided by the Department Manager on commencement and will cover information regarding resources available to you; your employment conditions; department specific information; Occupational Health and Safety and your learning and development needs.
Organisational Orientation - Western Health conducts a mandatory half day (whole day for Nurses/Midwives and Allied Health employees). Organisational Orientation session for new employees on a monthly basis. You will automatically be booked into a session as part of commencement arrangements. Details of this session, including date, time and venue will be provided in your employment contract.
View the Sunshine Hospital Orientation venue site map detailing where the session will be held.
Online Orientation - all new employees are required to complete a mandatory online orientation course through WeLearn. The course is delivered in an interactive format allowing new employees flexibility to complete the course at a convenient time and at their own pace. The online program will include a welcoming video by the Chief Executive, information about Western Health and an employment toolkit.
